Mobile Gaming in India makes up for about 90-95% of the Indian Gaming scene whereas PC and console only make up for about 9% and 5% respectively. So, why there is such a drastic difference in these gaming platforms?
Here are some of the major reasons why Mobile Gaming is more popular in India:
- Affordability
The affordability of gaming devices plays a major role in the popularity of mobile games in India. Mobile Devices in India are way cheaper when compared to PCs or Consoles. A good gaming PC in India can be very costly, starting from 30 to 35k. On the other hand, a good gaming device starts from as low as 15-16k which is affordable even for people who don’t earn that much.
- Availability of games
The availability of various famous gaming titles like PUBG, Genshin Impact, Hearthstone, Call of Duty, etc. on mobile platforms is also a very important reason for this rapid growth of mobile gaming in India. Also, many popular games on PC are not free which makes PC gaming even more costly. On the other hand, most mobile games are free to play, and even the ones that are not free, don’t cost too much.
- Less Limitations
When it comes to mobile devices it doesn’t have the same limitations as PC or consoles. We need to have some space and a room to set up a PC or console, but we can use our mobile phones anywhere and anytime. It’s not easy and economical to move an entire PC or console setup from one place to another whereas a mobile device can be carried around in our pockets.
- Lack of Space
Many households in India are very cramped, but setting up a PC requires space which is not available most of the time. Many kids don’t even have their separate rooms so, mobile games have become a go-to choice for them, especially in rural and underdeveloped cities.
- Less Download Size
Since many Indian households do not have a Wi-Fi connection they depend highly on mobile data. Which makes it difficult for them to download AAA PC games that are very big. However, mobile games are not too big and can be easily downloaded with mobile data.
However, during the lockdown period, we have seen an increase in the number of PC gamers and users in India. Which led to a decrease in PC and its accessories. Also, the popularity of PC games like Valorant led to an increase in the number of PC gamers.
